Tree Removal, Tree Planting, Arborist Reports and more!

Our arborists have the experience and training required to provide the right kind of pruning for your trees. All trees and shrubs are unique, as is their setting in the urban environment. While many of the fundamentals of tree pruning remain the same no matter the species, almost all species have different characteristics that must be addressed.

Construction-related damage, both above and below ground, remains one of the biggest causes of stress and death of mature trees in our city. Having a dedicated Pre-Construction Plan is the best way to protect your trees from the damaging effects of heavy construction. We at Alliance Tree Care have solutions for most health issues related to construction damage.

The majority of tree & shrub health issues are directly related to poor soil conditions in which they live. Urban soils are wrought with issues including compaction, salt and chemical contamination, poor drainage, and a desperate lack of beneficial microbiology. We have environmentally friendly and sustainable solutions for all of these issues and more.

Cankerworms are common in Manitoba and come in two types: Spring and Fall. Both look alike and feed on new spring leaves, but Spring Cankerworms lay eggs after the first thaw, while Fall Cankerworms lay eggs after the first frost. You’ll notice small holes in leaves from mid to late May, and trees may be stripped if numbers are high. By early to mid-June, mature larvae drop to the ground to pupate. We control them using BTK (Bacillus thuringiensis var. kurstaki) while larvae are feeding; it targets only these pests and is safe for other insects and pollinators.

Forest Tent Caterpillar outbreaks occur about every 15 years and last around 3 years, but these cycles are temporary. Adult moths are tan with bands, while the blue or brown larvae have white spots and yellow side lines. The larvae hatch at bud break, often gathering in groups on trunks and branches, and feed on new leaves for four to six weeks, sometimes stripping trees bare before moving to understory plants or even building walls. When ready to pupate, they build large cocoons in the branches of trees and shrubs. We control them with BTK (Bacillus thuringiensis var. kurstaki), which is safe for other insects and only works while larvae are feeding.

Eco Tea is essential to any Plant Health Care program. Teaming with live, beneficial microbes, Eco Tea enhances soil structure, increases the uptake of plant-available nutrients, and outcompetes detrimental bacteria and fungi. It does not leach away in the rain like traditional salt-based fertilizers. Contact us or visit https://eco-tea.ca for more info.
